Initiating Interviews

This past week in ISM, the biggest highlight for me was conducting my first interview of this year. It was also my first phone interview in ISM overall. While getting this information was great and the interview definitely did provide me with wonderful information, it was also a particular challenge for me. Like I mentioned before, this was my first interview in ISM over the phone so the experience caught me a bit off guard. With the interview being over the phone, I suddenly lost the ability to look at facial expressions and pick up on certain social cues that generally guide and gauge conversation. Over the phone, it became a little harder to respond to nonverbal cues and expressions and completely acknowledge everything. Eventually, this led me to the conclusion that while an over the phone interview is great for simply obtaining information it would be a lot harder to conduct a mentor visit or even follow up interviews over the phone. Because of this, I think that I would still like to conduct a live interview with this professional because I do believe that at least over the phone, we were quite compatible. As for the next couple weeks, I am just looking at doing interviews and with this first nine weeks closing out, I do think that I performed strongly academically. One thing that I would like to push for is interviews at bigger companies just to see if I can obtain one. With that being said, I look forward to finishing off this last week of the marking period strong and maintaining this momentum into the next marking period.
