Just the Beginning...

This past week was huge. I feel like I am beginning to truly experience what it is like to be a professional in the real world and all of the work that it takes beforehand for an individual to obtain the job he/she wants. One of the most important things I think I learned this past week was developing a resume. I did previously create a resume for my professional communications class freshman year but I feel like my teacher’s experience as a recruiter proved invaluable as I know exactly how to elevate my resume for professionals who read it. My resume is still a work in process and I expect to complete by the end of this week. One of the biggest challenges this past week was creating my professional portfolio. While the content of professional portfolio was not particularly difficult, what challenged me was coming up with one cohesive theme that gives more meaning to me than simply a name on a paper. I would not describe myself as creative so it was difficult to portray myself through images and colors. Ultimately, I think I found a way to represent myself that meets my high expectations. As for the future, this week I am working towards fully compiling my list of 25 professionals and hopefully begin initiating contact with them to schedule interviews. With that being said, I hope to finally find my mentor within the next 2 months and approach the end of what is the beginning of my ISM journey.
