Trusting the Process

Perhaps the biggest challenge that I experienced so far was securing a mentor. What makes it so difficult is that it is not under your control whatsoever. In every project, in every test, in every assignment, I have always felt that I had some sort of control over what was going on but this experience is completely different. Rejection is a real thing. In school, teachers are here to serve you. Teachers are here to help you. Little do people know is that it is nothing like that in the real world. No one owes you a single thing and that is something that ISM has helped me realize. This in fact is a standout benefit of ISM. It provides you with a very important dose of reality. Throughout our life up until this point we have always had people here to serve us whether that be our parents, our teachers, or the waiter at the restaurant. We have never truly experienced the whole phenomenon that no one owes us a single thing. With that being said, my biggest priority now in ISM is to secure a mentor. I will continue to contact mentors and if it is needed I will have to go and contact more individuals that I may not have interviewed to secure their mentorship. I do not foresee that I will have to drop out of ISM due to a lack of mentorship but at the same time I also think that it is crucial to stay realistic and keep that in the back of my mind that it may be a possibility.
